Home-Start Arun, Worthing and Adur celebrates a new Patron joining the Charity for its’ 20th Year of family support

Patrons such as HRH Kate Middleton for Place2Be, SportsAid and The Natural History Museum and big screen actor Angelina Jolie for UNICEF are vital to the success of a charity. Home-Start is thrilled to have a very special Patron join the Charity this year.

Dr Chris Warren-Adamson (Mr) is a published author and a nationally respected University Researcher with a PhD who lives locally. He has worked in the world of child welfare as a career, as a social worker, as Government adviser, as a researcher and a university teacher. Dr Chris has always believed that the matching of volunteer grand/parents to families who may need support, is one of the most effective interventions there is. Dr Chris said of his new Patron role; "I could not wait to get involved in my local Home-Start organisation. Home-Start is now an accepted part of the humanitarian fabric of the area. Its’ impact is huge as over the last three years the charity has supported 1,008 local children to a better start in life."

Home-Start is a local charity with trained volunteers providing peer support helping families with babies and pre-school age children through their challenging times. Volunteers are there for parents when they need the service the most because childhood can’t wait. Starting in the home, the approach is as individual as the people being helped. No judgement, it is compassionate, confidential help and expert support. Families struggling with post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer who will spend around two hours a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways they need. It is recognised that all parents need help sometimes, even those without money worries or low income. Helping families with children under 5 is positive early intervention.

Bridget Richardson, Chief Executive said; "Dr Chris has lived in Sussex all his adult life with his wife (a trained child therapist) and loves its’ mix of coast, urban living and gorgeous countryside. He has very many longstanding friends here and he counts them as family. Dr Chris brings family knowledge from all angles as he is close to his adult daughter and son and their own growing families. He will be an absolute asset to our work with local families. He is such a positive force for early years and child welfare."

Dr Chris says of his new role of Patron; "I look forward to contributing, as staff supporter, research consultant, and passionate ambassador for an exceptional organisation. As Patron I can use my networks to spread the news of the impactful work that Home-Start staff and volunteers do with local families. I am also looking forward to supporting the fundraising for the charity, especially the event at Rolls-Royce on Saturday 29th February. WOW! What a way to start my patronage."

Home-Start was the staff chosen House Charity at Rolls-Royce motor cars at Goodwood, Chichester for 2019 and the end of the year is marked with a Vintage themed evening at the Rolls-Royce HQ.
