About our volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people, feel valued and have fun! Our volunteers are people just like you - ordinary people who understand just how hard it can be to bring up young children. They all have parenting experience - some are young, others are not so young - and they come from many different backgrounds. Some have even been helped by Home-Start themselves.
At Home-Start we have several different opportunities for volunteering, working directly with families or supporting those who do.
Volunteers are sought from across the districts but especially from Bognor Regis area at this time.

Home-Visiting Volunteer

Our volunteers will usually visit a parent in their home once a week for a couple of hours. How they help is really down to the needs of the family. Some might need a empathetic ear, a shoulder to cry on, someone to have a laugh with. Others may need help keeping appointments or accessing local services and 'connecting' with their local community. Our volunteers can provide an extra pair of hands to help people cope with everyday parenting situations, or practical help with activities like playing or reading stories. Home-Start's approach is very personal and friendly and this often reassures parents that what they're going through is not unusual, that they are not alone.
Could you do it? The only real 'qualification' you need to become a Home-Start volunteer is experience of bringing up children. You will be friendly and understanding and have a practical approach to problems. You don't judge people, you accept them for what they are and then strive to support them as they try to give their children the best possible start in life. You will receive full training on one of our preparation courses, and have an enhanced level criminal records check, before being carefully matched with families where your own set of experiences and skills can help the most.
What support will I receive? Volunteers receive lots of support both during the preparation course and after when they are matched up with a family. Once with a family, volunteers receive regular supervision from their organiser, and have access to ongoing training, social events and volunteers meetings throughout the year.

Fundraising Volunteers

Our Fundraising Volunteers work together in small, local, community based Hubs and are an essential part of Home-Start. Hubs play a vital role in helping organise local fundraising events and promotional activities, which not only raise much needed funds, but also help spread the word about Home-Start in Arun, Worthing and Adur. Events can be anything that interests you: small or big; from coffee mornings or sponsored activities, to summer fetes or even a ball. Everyone's input is very much appreciated: from the person who puts up the advertising posters to the person who makes the speeches at the end of the evening. We really couldn't do any of it without you.
Please call into the office for a NEW fundraising pack to get you on your way
